Sailing the Lake- Difficulty at the Beginning

Sometimes change can be visualized as the waves crashing on the shore pushing inward against you trying to get your boat moving out into the open lake. It is difficult for the Hawaiians to get their outriggers past the dangerous inflowing surf. Those outriggers are often very big boats manned by many people to overcome the surf pushing them to shore.

This is the first meeting of your boat and the power of the water. This is your first time experiencing these powers by yourself with awareness and control. Don’t expect it go all go smoothly! That is not the way of life! This change is actually the way everything starts, a new baby, a new project, a new adventure! It can be seen as water pressure pushing up from below and rain falling down from above. Even though the two forces seem at odds with each other, in truth they are made of the same thing! It may feel like teeming, chaotic profusion but a thunderstorm will definitely occur and release the tension and clear the air so all things can breathe easily again.

All times of growth are beset with difficulties. But this struggle we perceive is simply the intention trying to make itself manifest. It is normal, natural and good. Everything is in motion and so if you just keep trying, if you use perseverance, there is prospect of great success, in spite of the apparent danger of the moment. You keep paddling and paddling and you will make it out beyond the surf. If you give up now you will not make it to open water.
